So now you know more about One Face Skin & Aesthetics Clinic, I shall tell you what I'm actually doing there.

Actually the treatment which I'm invited to do is to treat pigmentation. However I don't have any pigmentation "yet", so I invited my auntie to receive the treatment instead.

What's Pigmentation and what's the cause of it?

Well regardless of your age, if you don't apply sunscreen or even if you have freckles since young, pigmentation will become an issue! Pigmentation is caused by sun exposure and specifically the UVA rays which penetrate deep into your skin and cause ageing. It is a skin condition where patches of the skin turn into a darker shade of colour due to excessive presence of melanin, found on skin surface. Melanin is produced by melanocytes and functions as miniature umbrellas to skin cells to protect the skin from sun and UV damages.

The best way to prevent pigmentation if you haven't have it now is to use the right amount of sunblock. Reapply it after a few hours throughout the day – these are what dermatologists consider the best way to prevent freckles, dark spots and of course, skin cancer but the truth is majority of us can’t keep up with this regimen or some are even lazy to do so.

In a sunny weather like Singapore, skipping sunblock is probably the worst thing you can ever do to your skin. Especially if you drive, you might notice that one side of your face is slightly darker and this is because UV rays have the ability to penetrate through glass windows. Similarly, office ladies are not spared from the brutal UV rays either. If your work desk is near the window panels, this is a clear sign that you have to step up on your sun protection efforts.

Research has found that UV rays are responsible for 80% of skin ageing – think premature wrinkles, pigmentation problems, less bouncy skin, rough skin texture and sallow skin!

You definitely wouldn’t want to look haggard when you are still in the prime of your life. So remember to layer on your sunblock even when you are home!! It's not just about the sunblock. It's also factor alot on choosing the right one!
Many have the misconception that the higher the SPF level, the better protection we will get. However, that’s not the case. In fact, using products that are too strong may cause stress to our skin. Generally speaking, SPF 20 provides adequate protection for most of us who stay indoors. You will only require sunblock with SPF 30 and above if you are out under the sun most of the time. Removal of freckles, dark spots and other pigmentation problems can prove to be a hassle. So practicing early intervention is the best way to keep yourself looking youthful and radiant.
For those of you already have serious issue from pigmentation, fear not as One Face Skin & Aesthetics Clinic is here to help!
My aunt "Samantha" met up with Dr David and team to have a consultation to see if she's a suitable candidates for laser treatment.
The clinic look really professional and felt really comfortable after stepping in.

Samantha was given a medicated cream name DPplus for pigmentation to apply at alternate week before going back after 3 weeks to see if she still need to proceed with the laser. Yes there's cream to apply pre-treatment. In some cases, if you are lucky you do not need to continue with laser treatment after applying the cream as it lightens your pigment.

The face of my aunt pre-treatment.
The bottom right pic that's with makeup on.
You can see the obvious pigment.

Two week after using the cream, she feed-backed that it seems much lighter. This pic is without makeup

Do stay tune as I will be doing a post review after she goes back for a review!

In the mean time, please feel free to contact One Face Skin & Aesthetics Clinic if you have any enquiry or are keen to have a consultation.

5 food good for weaning your toddler

Hello all! Today I'm touching a topic on weaning your toddler for their first solid food.
Some of the parent out there are eager to wean their babies off milk. What does weaning mean?

The weaning process begins the first time your baby takes food from a source other than your breast – whether it’s formula from a bottle or mashed banana from a spoon. Weaning is the gradual replacement of breastfeeding with other foods and ways of nurturing.
Note that from a strictly medical point-of-view, the younger the baby the more important it is for him to receive breastmilk. For the premature baby, the benefits of breastmilk may be even more important than for the term baby. The more immature the baby, the greater the need for the protective features of breastmilk. It is recommended that for ideal nutrition, your baby should be exclusively breastfed for the first six months, and that nursing should continue after the introduction of solids for at least 12 months and longer if mother and baby wish. The World Health Organization recommends that babies be exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months, and that breastfeeding be continued for up to two years of age or beyond.
To continue with my post, I started to wean my son when he was about 5 months old. Why did I wean him off so early? As I have a very bad engorgement, I develop high temperature and has to be on medication hence after the medication my supply drop quite a huge amount. I try purchasing those infant squash food from brands like Gerber.

But it's kinda expensive and my boy didn't like it at all. I personally tried it to and I don't think I really like the taste.
So I decided to try experimenting food for my son. Of course before I try anything, I will google if it's safe for consuming by toddler of young age. So now let me share some of the food which I personally tried and thinks it's good.
1: Avocado

Avocado is a good source of protein. Avocados get a lot of attention for their healthy fat content, and so a lot of people miss the fact that they’re high in protein too! Good for all of us to know, but especially those parents raising kids on a vegetarian diet.
Rich in potassium (vitamin K) Avocados actually have more potassium than bananas, which is the fruit that traditionally comes to mind when we talk about vitamin K. It's full of fat.  Who doesn't like chubby babies? Children should NOT be on a low-fat diet anyway; they are growing and need good fats for healthy brain and body development. Avocados are very high in these good fats! Because of its high fibre and fat content, even a small portion is quite filling.
Try puree it in a food processor or blender until smooth. I specially bought a mini food blender off Q100 just to blend my son food. Add water if needed to reach desired consistency. I actually added with a little of breastmilk for some extra creaminess and taste instead of water. Don't worry if your milk supply has stopped totally. You can add formula milk too.
His stunt face after tasting the Avocado haha..

2: Potato

* Potatoes has a lot of good benefit and it's one of the simple vegetables that can be introduced in your baby's early diet. It's also easy to digest and it supplies energy for the baby to be active. But  due to high calorie content and low content of nutrients, it is better to introduce potatoes to your child between the ages of 7-10 months.

It has health benefits such as:
Supplies vitamins and minerals: Potato supplies judicious amount of vitamins and minerals. Though these are not up to the mark of other vegetables, yet it has vitamins and minerals in it.
Important for gastrointestinal health: Potato is high in alkaline sugars and these sugars can help in bringing down the acid levels in body. It is true for infants and toddlers as acidity can affect them. Moreover, potatoes can help prevent fermentation in intestines and promotes the growth of friendly bacteria. (HK Bakhru, 1997).
Protects liver: Studies now indicate that potato is good for liver. The peel of potato in particular has been noted to be very effective in protecting liver from chemical damage in studies. Eating potatoes with its peel intact can be really helpful for liver. (Singh et al, 2008).
Antiviral properties: Studies have shown that potatoes, particularly, red fleshed potatoes contain biochemicals called anthocyanins. These anthocyanins stopped the growth of influenza viruses. (Zhao, 2009).
Skin protection: Potato can also be used for skin protection. Vitamin C, starch and the enzymes present in potato are helpful in nourishing the skin tissue. Potato juice with its alkalinity has antiseptic action against dead skin that is removed easily, leaving behind healthy and glowing skin. (Umadevi, 2013).
Heals skin burns: Apart from imparting healthy glow to the skin, potato can also be very useful in healing burns of at least 1st degree. A freshly sliced piece of potato can be put directly on the burn for at least 15 minutes and continue the process for about 1 hour. Apart from burns, potato slices can also be used for inflammations caused by insect bites and dermatitis. (Umadevi, 2013).
To prepare, you will need to clean and peel the skins of the potato thoroughly.
Steam it and mash it or put it in the food processor to mash it up. Same as avocados, you can add breastmilk or water if needed. Your little one will be filling after just a small amount being fed to him/her.
3: Porridge

This is an Asian recipe. If you are not sure what's porridge, let me explain more to you.
Porridge or also known as Congee is a type of rice porridge or gruel popular in many Asian countries. When eaten as plain rice congee, it is most often served with side dishes. When additional ingredients, such as meat, fish, and flavourings, are added while preparing the congee, it is most often served as a meal on its own.

Despite its many variations, it is usually a thick porridge of rice largely disintegrated after prolonged cooking in water.
It's easy on the stomach, soothing and extremely digestible, rice porridge is a wonderful food for children. What's even better about it is, it's so easy to cook and you can use almost any ingredients you want. You can keep it simple with just some common ingredients.

Additionally, rice porridge recipes are great for busy moms. When you're too tired.
For preparation, just wash 1 - 1/2 cup of grain rice. You can add chop carrots/potatoes and put everything into a slow cooker and let it cook. A couple of hours later, you'll have a your pot of porridge for the little one. You also don't have to worry about nutrition because it's all there. Carbs, proteins and fibre in one meal, plus no mess in your kitchen. What's more is that you can always prepare more and enjoy it with your little one.

Note: Although used interchangeably, there's a slight difference between rice porridge and congee. Porridge is more watery, more grainy and not as smooth as the Cantonese congee.

4: Sweet Potato

Sweet potato is a versatile vegetable which is one of the great first food for babies because of its soft, creamy texture, delicious taste and less allergenic nature. Sweet potatoes are high in Vitamin A & E, also loaded with more health benefits and hence including them in children’s diet is important for their growth & development. Sweet potatoes are less allergenic in nature and suggested as one of the best first food for babies. Hence you can introduce sweet potatoes to babies from 6 months and sweet potato puree/mash is good to begin with. I usually use the Japanese sweet potato which actually is tastier and sweeter.

Health benefits of Sweet potatoes for Babies and Kids
  • Healthy Weight gaining food for babies and growing kids as its rich in natural sugars.
  • Rich in calcium and iron, which is necessary for growth in babies and kids
  • Loaded with Vitamin A, which helps to maintain good eye sight
  • Rich in Vitamin C and E that encourages healthy glowing skin.
  • High in fiber that helps to relieve from baby and toddlers constipation
  • Good source of dietary fiber which helps to maintain a healthy digestive tract
With every food, we have to take the good with the bad, and sweet potatoes don’t get a pass on this rule. The “bad” here isn’t terribly damning, but it’s something to be aware of: sweet potatoes are moderately high in oxalates, a group of antinutrients that can prevent mineral absorption and may be linked to kidney stones or gallbladder problems. So do try mild quantity to your toddler and observe any sign of constipation before further feeding.

You can steam the sweet potato and mash them. Add a little water. Note* Do not add milk for this.

5: Butternut Squash / Pumpkin

First let me tell you what's the difference between the 2.
Pumpkin is one type of squash and Butternut squash generally refers to four species of genus cucurbita, including the species to which pumpkin belongs. So, to make it clearer, both squash and pumpkin belong to the same family. Both are jam-packed full of some of the best nutritional compounds around.
They are highly loaded with Vitamin A and beta carotene. Beta Carotene is one of the plant carotenoids that when eaten and digested, turns into Vitamin A in the human body. Beta Carotene may reduce the risk of cancer as well as heart disease. It also may be responsible for combating or putting off the degenerative effects of aging. Pumpkins are also good sources of potassium, protein, and iron. Butternut squash however, has more Vitamin A than pumpkin.

Taste: Butternut squash is sweeter than pumpkin. Pumpkins have a more nutty, earthy flavour.

The most simple way to prepare it for your babies is that you can basically just bake or steam either one and mash it.
For more yummy recipe, you can just google. Do note though that pumpkin are high in Beta Carotene – Beta carotene is responsible for “Orange Babies”; if your baby’s nose, cheeks or even the soles of his feet are taking on an orange tinge, avoid giving your baby too much.

To end off my post, I shall add in a bonus!

There's this one fruits that I always gave to my son! It's sweet and healthy.
It's the Dragon fruits! I know this is not a common fruits that anyone will feed their child, but I would like to touch on the healthy benefits.

Dragon fruits have a surprising number of phytonutrients. Rich in antioxidants, they contain vitamin C (equivalent to 10 percent of the daily value), polyunsaturated (good) fatty acids, and several B vitamins for carbohydrate metabolism, as well as carotene and protein. Calcium is present for strong bones and teeth, iron and phosphorus for healthy blood and tissue formation. The benefits are realised in a number of ways, from a strengthened immune system and faster healing of bruises and wounds to fewer respiratory problems. I usually feed the red flesh dragon fruits to my boy as the health benefits are largely different to the white one and are usually sweeter.
To read more on the health benefits, please read it here: http://drhealthbenefits.com/food-bevarages/fruits/health-benefits-of-red-dragon-fruits

Here's my precious enjoying his yummy dragon fruitty <3

* Do note that my intention of this post is not to encourage any parent out there to stop breastfeeding or formula feeding. It is written out of my own experience. Also please do not introduce more than 2 solid food to toddler new to solid food. Thank you :)

If any of you have more recipe ore good food for toddler to share, please leave a comment below! <3

V-lift Nose Threadlift with Aesthetic Central clinic

Hello guys! Hope you has been well. As some of you know that I recently went to Aesthetics Central Clinic and try out the highly raved treatment "Nose Threadlift". Alot of you have been asking me for review and my opinion on it. Today I'm sharing with you my thoughts.

First let me introduce Aesthetics Central.

Who are they?

Aesthetics Central formally known as TCS Aesthetics. Is one of the first few Aesthetics clinic which opened in Singapore.
Situated in the heart of Singapore, overlooking the landmark Singapore River waterfront, and with a breathtaking view of the city skyline, their clinic blends convenience with upmarket style.  Their facility has been completely remodelled to include a spacious reception, a very private lounge, private consultation rooms, operating facilities and there's even a "playroom" for your kids. Yes you heard me right! They are so dedicate to provide you with excellent service that they even thought of us mummy who might have to bring our kids along. Do note though that they do not provide nanny to mend your kids.

UPDATES* The play room has since been removed and turned into a treatment room

As their patient, we're welcome to make use of their lifestyle facilities like rooftop garden, gym, pool and Jacuzzi, or enjoy the facilities nearby…
While I'm there, I enjoyed the privacy of their private waiting lounge, away from prying eyes.  Surf via their complimentary WiFi hotspot, just take in the relaxing view of the city skyline, or peruse the numerous hand-selected skincare and beauty products which have been personally tested by their clinical team. Their caring staff really pampered me in every step of the way.

Oh yes even their toilet and dressing room looks very class and well equip for their customers!!

2 of their treatment room.

I was schedule to meet Dr Ryan for a consultation. Dr Ryan Tan obtained his medical degree qualifications from NUS (National University of Singapore) & received his aesthetic certifications from the National Skin Centre. He has passion in all of his aesthetics treatments, such as the lasers & skin boosters injections.

He is a highly experienced doctor who has helped numerous of patients to look better & to regain their confidence. He also possesses a meticulous eye for detail & caring personality, and is always ready to advise his patients on effective & safe solutions.
His mission is to help every patient to achieve a natural & youthful appearance with minimal pain. Treating every patient as a friend, he is open to sharing his travels & photography journeys as well 🙂
Qualifications:MBBS (Singapore)
So I was brought to Dr Ryan room to have a consultation and has a better understanding of what's TCS's V-lift Nose Threadlift is all about.
So let me impact my knowledge about Nose threadlift to you curious Ladies and gentleman!
What's V-lift Nose Threadlift and how Aesthetics Central does it?
V-lift Nose Threadlift is the latest trend to hit Korean and Singapore shores. It can help your nose look higher, straighter and be more defined without invasive nose implant surgery. In addition, Nose Threadlift can also lift your nose tip and make it appear smaller and sharper.
One of the most fashionable trends in Korean aesthetics now is a slim an defined nose bridge. Tall elegant nose is much sought after, but is difficult to achieve with fillers, and in the past it could only be obtained with nose implants. Now with V-lift nose threadlift, it's all possible!
Aesthetics central uses fine, absorbable PDO (Poydiaxanone) suture threads which are inserted into the bridge and columella of the nose, a lifting and narrowing effect is seen on the nose bridge and nose tip.  PDO is an absorbable thread material used commonly in surgery for stitching up internal organs like the liver and intestines.  Over the course of one year, the threads are absorbed, but during the time that the threads are in the body, it excites the tissues around it.  This leads to the formation of new collagen fibres in its place, maintaining the effect for longer.  It is not unusual for the effects of the nose threadlift to be seen even after two years.
It is a myth that the only way to have a higher, more defined nose is to undergo an invasive nose implant surgery. The reality is that the Nose Threadlift procedure, a non-surgical and minimally invasive procedure with almost no down time, can also help you obtain a higher and more defined nose and nose tip.
For those who are also concerned about the risks of filler treatment such as spread, migration, lump formation or even blindness (which has already happened in afew countries), the Nose Threadlift provides a good alternative to enhancing the features of the nose without the attending risks of filler treatments.*

How is V-Lift Nose threadlift done?

The procedure is very simple and takes only ten minutes to complete.  Firstly, the nose is numb using numbing cream, after that tiny anaesthetic is injected onto the nose for further assurance of zero pain. This is the only painful part of the procedure.  Once the nose is completely numbed, the threads can be inserted.  There are long and short threads. Long V-Lift threads will be inserted to lift up the bridge of the nose.  Short V-Lift threads will be inserted on the tip of the nose to lift it up.
Numb cream is being applied
Me before the procedure start in the surgery room.

Local anaesthetic is injected on various nose point
The doctor and nurse are really delicate. They actually covered the other part of my face as they have to do some cleansing and I have makeup on. So to prevent it from being messy, they covered those part with gauze and cotton pad. *Don't worry it's very thin and I'm still able to breath through it* 😄

What is the effect of V-Lift Nose Threadlift?

The nose bridge is sharper and narrower, and straighter.  There is more definition on the nose bridge. The nose tip is raised and creates the illusion that the entire nose is smaller and narrower. It infact will help your facial feature to seems more prominent.* It should be noted that there is a partial effect that is semi-permanent. This is because the Nose Threadlift creates new collagen within the skin and tightens the skin as time goes by.*
For best results, 1 repeat treatment at 6 to 12 months is highly recommended.*
As to the number of threads required for optimal results, it depends greatly from one individual to the other. The optimal number of threads will be advised by our doctors after consultation.*

What are the complications of V-Lift Nose Threadlift?

The main risks of the threadlift are infection, which occurs in less than 1 % of cases.  The other risk is thread extrusion, where the thread may push out from below the skin to the surface of the skin.  If this happens, the thread will simply. need to be pulled out.  Nose threads are inserted from the tip of the nose, so there will be a small “pimple” like mark on the tip of the nose.  This heals up quickly, usually within a few weeks.

What should I observe after my nose threadlift?

Keep the injection point very clean.  Do not keep touching it and do not go swimming or engage in dirty sports like soccer etc, where the entry point could be contaminated.  There will be mild swelling for between two to three days.  This goes off quickly. The nose looks natural immediately after the procedure but when the swelling goes down, about 10-15% of the height will be lost.
*Note: As this is a medical procedure, results & outcomes are not guaranteed and may vary from person to person.

After treatment I'm given 2 types of medication and a tube of creams.
Sinecch, is good for reducing of swell and bruises after surgery. They are all labelled according to the days and hours you should consume this.

Apart from the Sinecch, there's an antibiotic cream to be apply onto wound area on my nose tips for 5days.
Also there's Augmex antibiotic to be consume. I have to stop that during the 3rd days as I got an allergy reaction. I actually consult the nurses whether is it normal that my eyes and face are swollen. The nurses was very kind and Dr Ryan even  spoke to me personally on the phone to understand about my condition. I would like to declare that my allergy reaction has got nothing to do with Aesthetics Central as they asked me many times whether I have any drug allergies before prescribing to me. But my answer was no as I have never come across being allergy to any drugs. Infact I have got to thank them now that I know that I actually am allergy to a certain drugs and I will be careful when I go see any GP in future!

2nd day with my higher nose bridge visible.

My swollen eye and face. Nose is still abit swell as it's only the 3rd day.
5th day. Less bruise and swell.

Other than V-lift Nose Threadlift, they have some other various type of treatment available.
